ARRESTING YEMENI & LEBANESE, SUSPECTED OF ARBIL

An authorized source in the UPK has confirmed that the security
authorities in Kirkuk city have arrested a Yemeni person, suspected of
having a relation with the two terrorist operations that targeted the
headquarters of the Democratic Kurdistan Party and the Union of Patriotic
Kurdistan Party in Arbil City. A Lebanese person was also arrested
yesterday in Kirkuk City suspected of having a relation with terrorist
groups and the investigation is still going on with both suspects without
announcing any details.

The Ministry of Culture in Kurdistan in Arbil has decided to subside
monthly rewards for the artists and authors in the region honoring their
creative works and upgrading their living standards. A committee was
created in the ministry to implement this decision that limited those who
work in the TV, Radio, Cinema, publishing and theatre fields of non-having
less than 10 occupation years. The committee stated that these rewards
should not be contradictory to the pension or the occupation salaries. It
is predictable that thousands of artists, journalists and authors will
benefit from this opportunity.
AL- SISTANI SOURCES DENIES ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

The office of grand Ayatollah Al- Sistani has denied last week the
attempt of assassination targeting Al- Sistani. Mr. Fareed al-Shams ,
charged with protecting the vicinity of Al- Sistani house said that
nothing such this happened Wednesday night as being reported by the news
agencies. In a statement to As-Sabah , Al- Sistani relatives mocked at
what is being by circulated by the satellite channels concerning the
assassination attempt hatched against Al- Sistani , saying that the
population of Najaf and the cities of Iraq in general crowded at Rassoul
street downtown Najaf soon after the dispatched news of Al- Sistani safety
. The coalition copters hovered overhead in Najaf , noting the city has no
foreign forces , and the Iraqi citizen shoulder responsibility of peace
–keeping task. Several population expressed their denunciation over these
flimsy news specially after Al- Sistani's confirmation to make the
elections. The middle Euphrates chieftains expressed their preparedness to
stand alongside grand Ayatollah Al- Sistani in running Muslims affairs .
Notably , Al- Sistani received during the Eid Al- Adha Mr. Abdul Aziz al-
Hakeem chief supreme council of the Islamic revolution , Muhammed Bahr
el-Uloom member the Governing council and Dr. Muwafaq al- Rubaiee.
GC PUNISHES AL- JAZIRA CHANNEL

The Governing Council has decided to forbid Al- Jazira channel or its
representative from entering the headquarters of the Governing Council nor
attending the press conferences for one month term as a punishment
procedure due to its misbehavior against the Iraqi national and religious
personalities as grand Ayatollah Muhssen al- Hakeem , Kurdish leader Mulla
Mustafa al- Barazani , Martyrs Muhammed Mehdi al- Hakeem and Muhammed
Baqir al- Hakeem.
IRAQI PILGRIMS PERFORM RITUALS AT PROPHET
MUHAMMAD MOSQUE

The Iraqi pilgrims have flown into Medina to perform the rituals
at the Prophet Muhammad mosque . The pilgrims prayed for God Almighty to
maintain Iraq . Meanwhile , the 1st convoy of Iraqi pilgrims
left holy Mecca returning home by land after performing small pilgrimage (
Umrah ) and Hajj .
AL- YASSAMINE SCHOOL RENEWED

With the support of the coalition forces and the participation of some
of humanitarian societies in the US, al- Yassamine primary school in
Palestine Street in Baghdad has been renewed with cost of $10.000. This
work came as a friendship expression with the people of Iraq. Sundus Abdul
Razzaq the headmaster of the school said that the coalition forces cleaned
the site after the renewing campaign as well as paving the street in front
of the school, expressing hope to the continuation of cooperation to help
the students and meet the needs of the school.
ARRESTING 35 CRIMINALS, GANGSTER OF MURDER,
LOOTINGS

Kerbala police station has followed number of procedures to prevent
murder and looting crimes through increasing patrols and spreading
checkpoints in allover the city. This efforts led to arresting 35
criminals accused of murders and lootings. Colonel Abbass al- Husseni the
leader of Kerbala police station said that the checkpoints are performing
their duties to support the march of security and stability. On the other
hand, the traffic police of Kerbala has foiled an attempt of looting gold-
smithery in mid of the city. The colonel for his part pointed out that
this effort is considered a good evidence for keeping security, stability
and combating crimes.
IRAQ, POLAND DISCUSS INDUSTRIAL TIES

Poland has recently expressed desire to boost trade ties with Iraq.
This came during a meeting held by the federation of Iraqi industries'
chairman Qais Kadhum al-Khafaji with a number of Polish undersecretaries,
businessmen and members of the Polish chamber of commerce currently
visiting Iraq. Al-Khafaji made a detailed explanation about the situation
of industry in Iraq and the industrialists' sufferings due to the
shortages of the raw materials and the latest techniques to improve the
Iraqi national industry. Al-Khafaji declared Iraq's keenness to bolster
ties with the Polish side in the field of industry.

HILLA TO BE CONNECTED TO HIGHWAY IN 2004

Eng. Majid Saleem Kareem, director of Babil road and Dridges
department said that the rehabilitation works included three bridges, two
in Hilla city. 60% percent of the Hilla-Kerbala road was paved. Work is
expected to be accomplished within the coming two months in paving the
17-km long Najaf-Hilla road and the 13-km long Hilla-Diwaniya road.
