DEFENSE MINISTER: SALARIES OF SENIOR MILITARY TO BE SPENT

Mr. Hazim Sha'lan the minister of defense said that the salaries of the senior military of the former army would be spent soon, denying any increase on these salaries.In a statement to As-Sabah, the minister said that the military college is to be opened in Baghdad, the term of the study will be a year and a half .He added that Iraq is in need for the stay of multi-national forces to face any dangers threatening Iraq.He confirmed that he dislike participation of the extremists in the new Iraqi army , referring to the special  political situation .

'MILLION RESIDENTIAL UNITS FOR ENDING RESIDENTIAL CRISIS IN IRAQ'

Iraq is in dire need for two millions residential units to ultimately end the residential crisis, the report prepared by the ministries of planning and housing said.Notably, the housing ministry said previously that the need for these units is estimated by two millions and a half.The report clarified that the ministries have no accurate documents or census nor the populations' number or the residential units.The ministry of housing said that it undertook grand program to eliminate the residential crisis and it has three residential compounds under construction in Baghdad, Kirkuk and Kerbala .

INTERNATIONAL DESIRE FOR COMMERCIAL DEALINGS WITH IRAQ

Well informed sources at Trade Ministry told As-Sabah that many offers have submitted by the Russian government and companies for expanding horizons of cooperation to serve both people's interests in all commercial fields as trading of cars and foodstuff. The source said that these offers are studied in accordance with their priorities and qualifications.At a press conference held recently, the Trade Minister said that Iraq has sought to open trade attaches in different countries. 

GROUP THREATENS TO BEHEAD ANY ATTORNEY FOR SADDAM

A group named “Islamic Saifullah Group” of the Islamic Jihad Movement has recently threatened to cut off the head of any lawyer who wants to plead for the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein due to his enormous crimes he committed against Iraqi people.In a record message sent to Reuters, the group said that it would pursue Al-Zarqawi until it succeeds in severing his head because he is Saddam’s follower. This is the second message sent by this group during this week. Meanwhile, demonstrations along Baghdad’s streets and a number of Iraqi cities have denounced firmly the acts of several Iraqi and Arab attorneys who get ready to defend Saddam Hussein. Demonstrators in Nassiriya City said they would not allow these lawyers to plead for Saddam. They further said that they would be forced to kill any attorney who disobeys the Iraqis’ will in this concern. Moreover, Iraqi citizens demanded that Saddam should be sentenced to death. In the Nassiiya demonstration, women and other family members of the victims that Saddam had once given his orders to kill during his reign, also demanded that Saddam should meet the same destiny that their victims had faced. 

320 MEMBERS OF IRAQI NATIONAL GUARDS GRADUATED

An Iraqi training cadre of National Guards has lately graduated a new batch of commissioned officers from the National Guards, consisted of 320, who was training at Al-Ukhawwa Center for Primary Training. The training course lasted for 20 days. Lieutenant General Amer Al-Hashimi, chief of Generals Staff, said that this new regiment contains various Iraqi sects and it will play a major role in actively protecting Iraq’s security. In the graduation celebration speech, Al-Hashimi praised the efforts exerted by the efficient Iraqi trainers. He further said that the Iraqi Army is in the building phase and it still in need of the former army member to supply the new ones with their expertise acquired through long years. It is worth mentioning that the new recruits are from the areas surrounding Tikrit.

IRAQ KEENS TO BOOST RELATIONS WITH FRANCE

Dr. Taher Al-Baka, the Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research has met the director of the French Cultural Center, where they discussed means of boosting relation between the universities of two countries. They also discussed training of the teachers and post graduate studies in the French and law specializations. On the other hand, Dr. Al-Baka met Hamad Ahmed Al-Shamesi, the consul at the Emirates Embassy to Iraq. They talked about enhancing the ties between the two Iraq and Emirates especially concerning holding exhibitions and cultural activities.  

MINISTER OF HUMAN RIGHTS MEETS CANADIAN DELEGATION

Mr. Bakhtyar Ameen, the Minister of Human Rights has received the director of the Connection Bureau in Baghdad. The ties between the two countries were reviewed during the meeting, where the two sides assured promoting the relations to serve the mutual interests .This meeting comes within the minister's scheduled agenda to meet ambassadors for he met the Italian, American, Swedish, Portuguese, and Australian ambassadors.  

LAND TRANSPORT DEMANDS WORLD COMPANIES PAYING DEBTS

The State Company for Land Transport has demanded some of the Arab as well as the international companies to pay its debts for the company. Mr. Mohammed As-Sabar Al-Mosawi, the director general of the Company, said that a delegation went to Jordan to conform the assets of the sulfur and the Jordanian companies' debts of transport fees and using local employers. The delegation has also visited Syria to know assets indebted to the company. Al-Mosawi added that the Turkish Transporting Federation and more than Ten Turkish Companies are indebted with $19 million, and some Bulgarian companies are indebted $1,350 million, in addition to some Jordanian companies.  

12 TRUCKS HEADING FOR IRAN SEIZED

Al-Muqdadiya Police Station has arrested a gang professional in counterfeiting. The gang is consisting of 4 members. They found with them stamps of many departments like traffic, nationality and the Technical Institute in Baquba. A source at Police Station said Al-Muqdadiya police squads in cooperation with the National Guards, arrested 12 trucks loaded with iron heading for Iran. They also captured a gang professional in steeling cars while they were trying to steel a car.
