FOLLOWS UP EVENTS IN NAJAF

The news reported from London said that the health condition of the
supreme religious authority Ayatollah Ali al- Sistani has been
deteriorated after hearing the developments in Najaf.In a telephone
contact made by As-Sabah with Al- Sistani , Mr. Muhammed Ridha al-
Sistani the senior son of Al-Sistani said that his father demanded the UN
to have an effective role in Iraq, referring to the creation of the
religious authority's committee consisted of Ahmed al- Safi , Sheikh Abdul
Mehdi the deputy of Al- Sistani and Sheikh Muhammed Baqir Ali al- Sistani
to receive the key of Imam Ali shrine in a gesture to soothe the situation
in the city of Najaf .
GUNMEN SEIZE TRADE MINISTRY'S CONVOY
IN AMARA

The gunmen of Al- Mehdi army in the city of Amara have
seized a convoy of lorries belonged to the ministry of trade were loaded
with large quantities of food stuffs exported in agreement with the
program of food ration card.Dr. Muhammed al- Jubouri the minister of trade
said that the gunmen decided to make these lorries as the ration of the
city of Amara.The minister called on the gunmen to regain these food items
as they are inseparable of the food ration card .On the other hand, the
minister urged to facilitate the foodstuffs transporting the foodstuffs
into the stricken regions in the city of Najaf.Notably the ministry of
trade is sending scores of Lories for the city of Najaf daily but the US
forces harass these lorries under the pretext that these lorries going for
Al- Mehdi army.
AL- SADR OFFICE DENIES INVOLVEMENT
IN ATTACKING OIL INSTALLATIONS

In a statement issued Saturday, the office of Al-Sadr denounced all the
military operations in targeting the oil installations and pipelines.A
source at the office said that the elements of Al- Mehdi are far away from
these operations that target the Iraqi economy from one side and hinder
the movement of the lorires loaded with commodities after reports on
targeting these Lorries by unknown gunmen in the city of Imara.
SILOS IN IRAQ TO BE RAN BY INTERNET

Mr. Nizar Khudir al- Samaraee the director of state company of seeds
trading said that the company is relying on the internet for coordination
between the company and all its departments and 56 silos distributed
allover Iraq.He added that company will contribute in classifying the
information to circulate the orders and procedures and secure flexibility
of the work further for signing contracts with the providing companies
abroad.He confirmed that the company undertook supplying the grinders with
exported wheat %100 from world origins that have world qualifications and
suitability for the human use.
EXPORTING OIL VIA CEYHAN PIPELINE
RESUMED

The Ministry of Oil resumed exporting oil through the northern
pipeline towards the Turkish Ceyhan Port. A source at the ministry said
that pumping oil resumed with a higher exporting level than the previous
year levels, indicating that the work in this line was put on halt during
the last couple of days due to the instability. The Ministry pumped oil
through this line as an experiment and sold more than 10 billion barrels
to the international companies.On the other hand, an unknown armed group
set fire at the main oil pipelines at the Southern oil company. An
authorized source at the Company said that pumping oil was halt because of
the security situation. Notably, about 13 sabotage acts targeted the oil
institutions since the beginning of this year. During the last few days
many aggressions happened one of which was burning the Southern Oil
Company headquarters.
CULTURAL COOPERATION BETWEEN IRAQI
UNIVERSITY AND ARAB & FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES

Dr. Abbas Al-Ruba'I, the dean of the Technical Education College at Babil
University, said that the college admitted more than 200 students for the
year 2005. He added that they made some reconstruction on the college like
building new study rooms at plastic arts, and ceramic departments and
enlarged the central library of the college. In addition to that, he added
that the college intends to open a new centre for Internet to be used by
students and professors to get acquainted with the latest development
around the world. Also, he assured enhancing the cultural cooperation with
Arab and foreign universities and that the university sent professors to
be trained at some foreign universities to have an idea about means of
teaching in those countries within the university's aim to improve the
curriculums.
$17 MILLION TO DEVELOP CENTRAL
RAILWAY STATION

The Transport Ministry has allocated $17 million to develop the central
station of the railways in Baghdad. Engineer Salam Jabur Al-Abbasi, the
director general of the State Company of Railways, said that this project
comes within the ministry plan to develop transport sector, especially
railways. He added that the ministry implemented many projects to set new
railway lines and update the old ones and establish a new line near the
old one between Baghdad-Basra and Um Qasr and Baghdad-Mosul-Rabei'a.
ELECTING BASRA GOVERNOR

An authorized source in Basra province said that the province council
approved candidate Dr, Amer Al-Khazali, the representative of Da'wa
Islamic Party as Basra governor after the election reached a blocked end
and the candidates for the governor post were threatened. Dr. Al-Khazali
is due to assume post within the coming few days. |
