MINISTRY OF EDUCATION REJECTS
DISTRIBUTION OF OLD CURRICULUMS

Iraq's Ministry of Education has recently decided to stop
distributing the old text books used previously in schools in all schools
in Iraq, especially those which have indications of the former regime.Dr
Sami Al-Muzaffar, Minister of Education said that the ministry is printing
more than 80 million new curriculums with 600 titles in and outside Iraq.
He further said that the ministry will distribute the new curriculums at
the rate of 100% in all schools.
NEW PLAN TO MAKE IRAQI DINAR APT TO
OUTER TRANSFER

Iraqi Central Bank has recently announced a new work plan aiming at
making the Iraqi dinar apt to outer transfer during the coming stage. A
source in the bank said that deterioration of the Iraqi currency compared
to other currencies is mainly resulted in its lack of ability to be outer
transferred. He also said that settlement of security conditions and
existence of Arab and foreign banks represents a good start for investment
in Iraq in addition to having trust for economic dealings that enters and
goes out of Iraq.
RECONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS INCREASE FOUR
TIMES THAN BEFORE

Campaigns of reconstruction in Iraq have four times increased in
Iraq, especially in Najaf than they were last June. A high-ranking source
in the American Embassy said that $ 1.2 billion have been allocated to
enter the program of reconstruction in the former period. He referred that
$ 150 million have been used to reconstruct Al-Najaf Teaching Hospital.The
reconstruction campaign in Najaf also include the establishment of four
health centers at a total cost $389 million during the coming six months.
MINISTRY OF MUNICIPALITIES WORKS TO
MODERNIZE DESIGNS

Constructional Planning Directorate, of the Ministry of Municipalities,
works to update the major designs in the provinces of Iraq. A responsible
source in the ministry said the Consultative Engineering offices have
called for taking part in this giant project. He also said that the
ministry asked these offices to make designs for the centers of provinces
according to the new development and the need to expand.
4000 CIVIL DEFENSE EMPLOYEES TO BE
TRAINED IN BAHRAIN

The first group of the Civil Defense employees is heading to Bahrain to be
trained on rescue and saving procedures during fire. The media spokesman
of the civil defense command said that an agreement was signed between
Ministry of Interior of the two countries stated that 4000 employees of
the civil defense are to be trained in Bahrain. He assured that another
courses are to be followed in order to get the employees acquainted with
defeating fires and means of rescuing people.
SECURITY PROCEDURES IN KARBALA
DISCUSSED

Dr. Aqeel Al-Khazali, the director general of Karbala province met Mr.
Smith, the US consul of the Central region, who visited the city to
discuss the services provided to the citizens in addition to the security
situation. Dr. Al-Khazali asked the consul about the multi-national forces
preparations for the Shabani visit and what are they going to do
concerning providing security to pilgrims. Mr. Ahmed Hasoon, the chief of
Media & Relations in the council said that preparations for holding the
elections scheduled on January were also discussed. He added that Mr.
Smith praised the security situation in the province and the councils work
despite the fact that the council is newly established.
MINISTRY OF HEALTH SAYS 100 DOCTORS
KIDNAPPED

The Ministry of Health statistics confirmed that more than 100 Iraqi
doctors were kidnapped, killed or blackmailed since the collapse of the
Saddam regime.Dr. Mohammed Al-Hasoni, the director of Protection from
Violence program at the ministry, said that this is an unfamiliar
phenomenon to the Iraqi society and has a bad effect on the scientific
future of the country, for it targets the educated people, indicating that
the current numbers are small part of the real number of the kidnapped
doctors. Dr. Al-Hasouni accused foreign people to do such a thing in
addition to the lack of security.
A PROGRAM FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF MARSHES

A special committee in Amara province has studied a program for
the advancement of Hwaiza marshes, sources at the committee said.The
sources told As-Sabah daily that the committee has held a meeting in Amara
to study possibilities for the advancement of the marshes and develop the
villages there.The committee includes representatives from Amara province,
Ministry of water resources, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Agriculture
and a number of departments.The sources said that the committee has made a
tour in the said area to get acquainted with its status.The Ministry of
Culture is seeking to revive the tourism field in this area which contains
a number of archaeological sites.
CONFERENCE ON CHILDHOOD

A conference on childhood has recently held in Hilla City. The conference
discussed issues related to Iraqi children, cultural adviser for the Human
Rights Society in Babil Hazim Mustafa announced.According to Hazim, three
papers were discussed in the meeting; the first was educational, the
second was religious and the third was social and political.The three
papers discussed the educational curriculum and put rules that force
parents and workmen not to let U-14 children join any kind of labor.
CONFERENCE ON HIGHER EDUCATION HELD

Ministry of Higher Education has held a conference that called for a new
strategy that helps develop the current higher education policy.In his
opening ceremony speech, Minister of Higher Education Dr. Taher al-Baka'
called for the necessity of reaching recommendations that help develop
higher education after decades of sanctions and deterioration, adding that
the ministry is working for amending its law to harmonize with the said
strategic aims.The conferees discussed 50 researches on developing higher
education in Iraq as well as developing teaching methods and raising the
performance level of university teachers.
SECURITY SITUATION IMPEDES
RECONSTRUCTION

Deputy Chairman of the Japanese mission to Iraq has said that the unstable
security circumstances are impeding the reconstruction in Iraq.During a
meeting with Minister of Emigrants and Deportees Bascal Werda, the two
sides discussed bilateral relations and cooperation between the two
countries.The Iraqi Minister reviewed her ministry's nature of work as
well as its projects and the achievements scored. The Iraqi Minister
called for governmental and non-governmental organizations to extend aid
and support to Iraq to help implement programs for receiving those who
return to Iraq.For his part, the Japanese figure reviewed his country's
contribution to the reconstruction of Samawa Province.
1 BILLION & 800 MILLION ID OF THE
INTERNATIONAL GRANT TO ACHIEVE SERVICE PROJECTS IN BAGHDAD

Radhi Al-Haidari, the governor of Baghdad, said that Baghdad province has
allocated 1 billion and 800 million ID form the international grant given
by the multi-national forces to achieve service projects in Baghdad
province. He added that the projects to be achieved include sewage nets
for rain water in Tarmiya, paving Al-Mahmoydiya high way and building the
swage net for rain water in Karama at Abu Ghraib district and another one
at AL-Makatab Street at Zuhor district. |
